With the 8.0 Update 3 release of VMware vSphere, a new anticipated feature was added – an option to configure snapshot autodeletion.
This short article will look at how to use this feature.
We will start with a VM, with one snapshot configured a day ago:
To schedule snapshot deletion, we can select a menu (Snapshot Deletion) and schedule a task:
Or, just right-click on the VM – Snapshots – Schedule Snapshot Deletion:
Next, we need to set the task name and the schedule:
You can delete a snapshot once or set an interval: hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly. Also, it is possible to send an email notification.
Next, we need to specify a snapshot age to delete. The minimum snapshot age before it will be deleted is one day:
Click schedule the task, and it will be scheduled.
That’s all. You will see a created task:
On the VM scheduled tasks menu, we can observe the task status:
As you can see, in my case the task was started right in the requested time and completed successfully. And VM does not have any snapshots:
