Setting Account Quotas in Quantum ActiveScale Storage

Recently, I was asked to set a Quota for a new S3 account on Quantum ActiveScale. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find an option for this in the UI, so we had to use the ActiveScale CLI (ascli).

To get the CLI, download it from the ActiveScale UI under Configuration > Download > CLI.

Copy CLI to a Linux machine (I use WSL), unzip it and run ascli.

/mnt/d/ascli$ ./ascli
ascli$

First we need to login:

ascli$ login
Enter Host: 192.168.200.250
Enter Port: 10443
Enter Username: your-privileged-user
Enter Password: your-privileged-user-password
Logged in as admin
( your-privileged-user ) ascli$

After login, we can setup a quota for an existing account:

( your-privileged-user ) ascli$ account quota configure --email vmik@vmik.lab --enforcement-type hard --quota-max 5
Quota configuration for account vmik@vmik.lab

Quota Limit: 5.000000 GB
Capacity Usage: 0.000000 GB
Notification Low Percentage: 85%
Notification High Percentage: 95%
Enforcement Type: HARD
Update Time: Tuesday, 19-Jan-38 08:14:07 +05

Or in short:

( your-privileged-user ) account quota configure --e vmik@vmik.lab -f hard -q 5

In this example we’ve set a 5GB quota for an account with email vmik@vmik.lab. We can set up hard or soft quotas.

A hard quota prevents uploading any new objects once the limit is reached. A soft quota allows users to continue uploading new objects while generating an email notification whenever the threshold is exceeded.

To view an existing account quota, use the command below:

( your-privileged-user ) ascli$ account quota show --email vmik@vmik.lab
Quota configuration for account vmik@vmik.lab

Quota Limit: 5.000000 GB
Capacity Usage: 0.000000 GB
Notification Low Percentage: 85%
Notification High Percentage: 95%
Enforcement Type: HARD
Update Time: Tuesday, 19-Jan-38 08:14:07 +05

Keep in mind that it can take up to 24 hours to recalculate capacity usage, so your quota limits won’t be enforced immediately.
