It’s been a while since the last Nutanix release, and today Nutanix released new versions of the Nutanix Cloud Platform: AOS 7.6, AHV 11.2, and Prism Central 7.6. You will definitely love this release; just look at some of the release notes.
AOS 7.6 (Release notes):
1. Support for 307 TB Capacity in All-Flash NVMe systems;
2. Increased Maximum Capacity for Hybrid HCI Nodes up to 270TB;
3. Support for 1 node / 2 disks cluster fault tolerance. With 1N/2D, a cluster can tolerate the simultaneous failure of one node or two disks. In addition, support for a 1 Node and 1 Disk (1N&1D) cluster fault tolerance was enhanced too. Check this doc for more info;
4. Two-Node to Three-Node Cluster Expansion on AHV. We can expand a 2-node cluster to a three-node cluster just by adding a new node;
5. RHEL 9 Support. In this release the base OS of the CVM and PS is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9;
6. Secure Access. With the Secure Access option, you can control SSH access to the CVM and replace Bash access for the admin user with the NuService Menu.
7. Enhanced Controller VM (CVM) Security;
8. Automatic Upgrade to Autonomous NearSync;
9. Support for VMware vCenter Server 9.0 with ESXi 8.0;
10. A lot of updates for External Storage, including support for Dell PowerStore and Compute Clusters High Availability.
AHV 11.2 (Release notes):
1. Enhanced Memory Metrics for VM Monitoring. AHV introduces new memory metrics that separate actual guest memory consumption from ballooned memory;
2. Extended NIC Support for SR-IOV and Network Offload on NX Platforms;
3. BIOS UUID Preservation for Backup Chain Continuity;
4. External SSH Access to AHV Hosts Disabled by Default – SSH access (port 22) to AHV hosts is disabled by default and you access an AHV host over SSH through the Controller VM;
5. NVIDIA HGX Platform Support on AHV;
6. Cluster-Wide Host Console Access Control in AHV – You can deactivate or reactivate physical, serial, and virtual host console access for all hosts in a cluster.
Prism Centra 7.6 (Release notes). Includes a lot of new features; I will post a few of them:
1. Copy and Paste to VM Console – Finally!.Starting with AHV 11.2 and pc.7.6, you can copy text from your workstation and paste it into the AHV VM console;
2. Content Repository for centralized management and synchronization of VM images across multiple Prism Central instances;
3. Support for On-Demand Migration from Older to Newer AHV Versions. Supports one-way VM migration from a source cluster that runs an older AHV version to a destination cluster that runs a later AHV version;
4. Improved Local Upload for Images and OVAs – now we can resume interrupted uploads and verify files’ integrity and checksums;
5. Migration Tool for Protection Domain to Entity-Centric Nutanix Disaster Recovery;
6. A few changes related to the Nutanix Projects. Folks mentioned that it’s crucial to review those changes before updating. So make sure to check release notes and Project documentation first;
7. Many features related to data protection, security, and manageability.
As I wrote, this is just a small bunch of the new features. Please follow the release notes for all the products to check on the features, fixes, and known issues.
