With release 9.1 of vCloud Foundation and vSphere Foundation a new component called the License Server was released.

The License server is a dedicated protected repository within your environment used to keep licensing data. For each VCF Operations instance, we need to use at least one License Server.

Right after updating my VCF Operations instance to version 9.1, I saw a banner with the message: “Your registration needs to be updated with a license server. Go to Licenses & Registration page to update the VCF Operations registration and access the available licenses”, which means we need to deploy and connect a new License Server. In this article, I will cover this process.

VCF Operations for Logs (formerly Log Insight) is a powerful tool allowing us to keep, maintain, and explore logs from the VMware Cloud Foundation components, and this is one of the critical components of any virtual infrastructure.  

In this short article, we will deploy VCF Operations for Logs and configure vCenter Server, ESXi hosts, and VCF Operations to send logs to the newly deployed appliance.
